God. Who is He? Time to ramble…

  • Do you really think I’ll explain everything in a few bullet points? Ha!
  • A few questions will hopefully stir your thinking.
  • If you believe in God, how much influence does He have on your everyday life?
  • A follow up to that one: why? Or why not?
  • How do you form your thoughts about God?
  • You have two options: what you or others think, or what He says.
  • How would you like everyone to evaluate you based on what they think or what others think?
  • Wouldn’t you want to have a chance to have people evaluate you by what you say about yourself?
  • Many people have and have always had thoughts about God – His nature, character, salvation, etc.
  • But the question remains: do we have accurate thoughts about God?
  • Bottom line: having thoughts about God presents no problem, but if we have thoughts about God that don’t line up with what the Bible says about God, they we must admit we have wrong thoughts! Period!
  • A couple books we’ve used for study recently: Knowing God by J.I. Packer or Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology.
  • A couple verses will encourage you: Jeremiah 9:23-24: Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”
