Time to ramble about the marches from this past weekend

  • I am glad to be wrong on this stuff, just processing some thoughts.
  • I’m not really opposed to teens using their voice. Speaking as a former youth pastor, perhaps that shouldn’t surprise you.
  • I can’t process why so many adults see the need to shout down these teens for speaking up. If they’re wrong, the movement won’t go anywhere.
  • And by the way, did any of us adults ever get anything wrong as teenagers?
  • Now listen, I am not so light-headed or light-hearted I don’t think some adults could make this a total mess. They probably will. See here for some of those thoughts.
  • Teens need support, guidance, relationship, discipleship. Hard to provide that when conversations can’t take place, prevented by barriers of assumption (or screaming).
  • What do adults really fear here? I think you might get some different answers to that question.
  • I read a couple articles and I saw quite a few tweets. Some of the demands would probably fall under the “extreme” label. But many things these students ask for don’t come close to the “taking away everyone’s guns” rhetoric purported by others.
  • But, some conservative responses seem to assume that’s the case.
  • I know responses come from various corners of thought, so I’m not trying to paint with too broad of a stroke. I think we all stand to benefit from research and analyzing our own argument’s potential weak points. This is called critical thinking.
  • Further, I can’t understand why some opposed to these marches (and the teens?) fail so miserably to empathize. Perhaps our country has a major empathy problem, but that’s another blog post.
  • Seriously, what part should empathy play in reacting to this movement?
  • Regarding the ambition of this generation, who sees opportunity here?
  • What if this group of young people really got ahold of Biblical faith with the same strong conviction?
  • Do we really hope and believe all things? (I Corinthians 13)
  • What else do you think on this topic? Just curious…
