Perhaps you do believe in God. Perhaps you don’t. Today I’m rambling about reasons I do believe in God.
- Without God, I can’t grasp a basis for morality. How do you have objective right and wrong without a Creator who has authority over the creation?
- The universality of frustration in the human condition. Brokenness befalls us. Our world is a broken place. This is completely consistent with our understanding of the consequence of sin and God’s promise to restore and eventually replace this planet.
- The results for people who believe. Yes, some who say they believe live in total hypocrisy. However, some live completely changed and transformed lives after belief in Jesus, with seemingly no other explanation.
- The reliability of the New Testament. Historically, the New Testament stands out against other works from antiquity with high integrity as a historical document.
- I believe He has changed my life. Confusion, hurt, anger, pain – God has worked through these in various situations time and again. I am not who I was. I have been empowered to make drastic changes to difficult and even destructive behaviors. I do not believe I would have made this kind of progress without the power of Jesus Christ living in me.
- Some things just don’t add up otherwise. Like the time our church received an $80,000 check just about a week after getting news of the need of a partial roof replacement – which would cost about $80,000. We had no idea how we’d get that kind of money. I could tell many other stories from my personal life of God’s incredible timing. Coincidence? Could be, of course. I believe otherwise.
- If you do not believe, I understand. People often have very personal or otherwise well thought out reasons for choosing to not believe in God or the work of His Son Jesus Christ. But, I write this today to encourage you to think about the possibility God does exist. He wants us to experience love, forgiveness, healing, and joy in our lives. He wants us to have eternal life. And, He leaves trusting in His Son Jesus as the only option to experience any of these. Please reach out if you have questions you’d like to discuss!
