Good morning…How about some rambling from 2 Timothy 1?

  • First, read these verses carefully:
  • Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to[a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me.
  • The concept of trust can present a lot of difficulties for us as human beings.
  • We may feel like we cannot trust people.
  • What about our inability to trust leaders? Government? Maybe Church?
  • Or what if relationships have brought hurt and damaged our ability to trust?
  • At times we will need to do difficult work to re-learn or repair trust in our lives.
  • But what do these verses say when it comes to Jesus?
  • Paul mentions his suffering. We often question God in suffering.
  • I am so encouraged by his response.
  • He leans on Jesus…
  • …who called us to a holy calling.
  • …who was purposed to display grace for this earth before time began.
  • …who abolished death and brought life, even eternal life.
  • This is why we trust God. He has plans and purposes for you and for me – to show us His mighty grace.
  • And I am not able to guard this grace and calling God has entrusted to me. Neither do you possess that ability.
  • Who does? Look at the end of vs. 12: “…that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted…”
  • HE. Is able.
  • HE IS. Able.
  • You may wonder aloud regarding God’s purposes for your life, for certain events, breakdowns, sinful struggles, etc.
  • You may wonder why your attempts to do right have led to difficulty, tension, or even conflict.
  • Know that we will suffer.
  • Know that He is able to guard what He’s put in us and called us to do.
  • That spoke powerfully to me yesterday. I hope it speaks to you today!
