This was one of the most popular clicks in a long time on my blog. I’m wondering if you’re all cruel and want to hurt your pastor, or if you’re just curious. (Wow, now that I think about it, I really hope it’s the second!)

Here it is:

7 ways to hurt your pastor.

After you’ve read the article, here are a couple thoughts of my own:

1. I really don’t get too much of this.

That means, yes, that I’m not intentionally hurt too often by too many people. Yes, that means I think I’m blessed to be in a spot where I am learning and growing as a pastor while having the support of leaders and our congregation to do so.

2. If you think these seven are bad, read the comments of the article!

“Ouch!” is all I have to say on that one.

3. If you love your pastor, say so!

Sometimes a well placed compliment or encouragement CAN help during a difficult season or even a season where the pastor is being criticized.

4. Pray for a spirit of forgiveness among pastors.

I know this article isn’t intended to put up walls, but criticism is something that should put up walls. It should open up doors for communication, even if hurtful things are said and done. One’s character is defined when under fire.

Think. Do you think the pastor of your church goes through these things? Good bet he/she does. No, I’m not encouraging betting.

Act. Look at #3!
